Couture Hats at Ready-to-Wear Prices

Combining elegance of design with impeccable workmanship, a fashion-forward eye -- and a dash of whimsy -- Barbara Feinman's hats are sought after by a growing and varied clientele.

After selling for several years to a number of exclusive retailers -- from Barney's to small specialty stores around the country -- Barbara established her own atelier and shop in June 1998 in the heart of New York's East Village. Operating out of a tiny, golden-lit, romantic space, Barbara has earned a reputation as a talented milliner who can create just the right hat for each client.

Barbara Feinman Millinery is one of very few New York shops where hats are actually made on the premises. The hats are hand-blocked and hand-crafted from start to finish, using techniques and equipment that have scarcely changed since the 19th Century. These time-honored methods suit Barbara very well. "I'm lucky I found a field that I love, where such quality is still appreciated. There really is no substitute for a hand-made hat." Barbara is assisted by fellow designers Karmenlara Ely and Kimberly Hutsal. The collaboration between these women creates a wide range of styles from classic vintage elegance to the carnivalesque.

Barbara's work has been displayed at the American Craft Museum, and has been featured in an array of media including The Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, Allure, New York Times Magazine, Victoria, Time Out New York, Essence and Forbes. Her retail customers range from international tourists to avante-garde musicians, from affluent uptown matrons to cutting-edge East Village fashionistas. Her celebrity clientele includes Blake Lively, Eve, Beyonce, Chloe Sevigny, Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, Marisa Tomei, Glenn Close, and others.
